John Smith Landscape Photography
"My goal was to capture the beauty and majesty of the mountains of Western North Carolina, the Southern Appalachians, and the Great Smokey Mountains so all would know what it is like to live in such splendor as we have here as displayed in our four distinctive seasons."
John's photography career started in 1970 working in commercial photography. In 2000 he began shooting landscapes in addition to running his own photo labs. His work has been published in local magazines, in addition to being exhibited in galleries in Hendersonville, Asheville, Black Mountain, Blowing Rock, Blue Ridge Georgia and Jasper, Georgia.
"John's passion in photography comes from a love of light and how it reflects and complements the scene. I feel I have a unique ability to see light. My best times to photograph are early morning and late afternoon and early evening. Weather also interacts to create moods in the photograph. Nothing is better than inclement weather to create situations for the photograph. Post storm is especially nice. Often cloudy weather can bring out the colors since the clouds are acting as a giant umbrella just like would be used in a studio lighting situation."
