We recently visited the Elijah Mountain Gem Mine - twice! First with good friends visiting from Wilmington, NC, and the next day with our grand kids. We really struck it rich...

Okay, we didn't actually find the gems in the photo above. But every prospector had a rich time, and took home a bag full of gems and some great memories. Here are three of them, working hard alongside their dad, panning for gems at the flume...

When they were finished our prospectors received a free analysis of what they found. They left with fossils, amethyst, bloodstone, emerald, jasper, rubies, and other gems...

They also had their geode cracked open so they could share it and each have a piece...

For over two years we've been just a short drive from the Elijah Mountain Gem Mine, but until our good friends came to visit, we hadn't tried mining. (Thanks Jim and Laura!) Here's a picture of them working the flume, searching for the mother load...
