Check Out Black Mountain Center for the Arts
30 October, 2012
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is currently hosting the Biennial Juried Show for the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League. The Upper Gallery exhibit is located in old City Hall...
The building has been nicely renovated inside and out...
The juror for the SVFAL's Biennial Juried Show is Wendy Outland, owner of Who Knows Art. She provides art-related consulting services and workshops. The SVFAL show will continue until Nov. 21 and is open to the public 10-5 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 11-3 on Thursdays.
When I recently visited the Black Mountain Center for the Arts I enjoyed the exhibit by sculptor Julia Burr and photographer David Young...
Burr's recent public works include “Honor,” an 18-foot abstract work permanently installed at the NC Veterans Park in Fayetteville, NC, and the 45-foot sculptural elliptical steel railing in downtown Asheville’s Pack Square Park. Young's photography has been shown in galleries and exhibits up and down the East Coast.
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is a fascinating place, thanks to volunteers, donors, and the hard work of executive director Gale Jackson...
On stage throughout the year Black Mountain Center for the Arts offers live theatre, story-telling, poetry, dance and musical concerts. Art shows in the gallery include glass, paint, sculpture, textiles and pottery. Classes for adults and children range from drawing and painting to music and ballroom dancing.
The old City Garage behind the main building was turned into a clay studio. It's open to all ability levels for wheel throwing, hand building, independent studies and workshops. Be sure to check out the amazing concrete mural on the side of the clay studio...
