Arts Council of Henderson County's Art On Main

The Arts Council of Henderson County announced the winners of $4,600 in prizes at the 53rd annual Art on Main fine art and fine craft festival in downtown Hendersonville, North Carolina. Almost 70 artists had booths along Main Street, October 6-7 at one of Western North Carolina's most popular outdoor art festivals. Winners were:

• Margo Nagel Fine Art Award ($750), Walter Arnold, Hendersonville, NC...
• Hans Nagel Fine Craft Award ($750), Julie Merrill, Asheville, NC...
• 1st Place, Fine Art ($500), Danny O’Driscoll, Batesburg, SC...
• 1st Place, Fine Craft ($500), Larry Allen, Leeds, AL...
Additional Art on Main winners included:
• 2nd Place, Fine Art ($300), Dave Goldman, Mills River, NC, Painting
• 2nd Place, Fine Craft ($300), Warner Whitfield, Weaverville. NC, Glass
• Honorable Mention ($100), John Gunther, Abingdon, VA, Fiber
• Honorable Mention ($100), Olivia de Soria, Asheville, NC, Jewelry
• Honorable Mention ($100), Ward Siegler, Genoa City, WI, Jewelry
• Honorable Mention ($100), Paula Marksbury, Athens, TN, Glass
Awards were announced during an artist’s reception by Arts Council board member Francis Cullinan, and Kim Adams, Art on Main Co-chair. Patrick Dennis, Mana Hewitt, and Stephanie Moore were judges for the festival.
In addition, Shirley Palmer-Hill of Wickwire gallery presented Paula Marksbury, a glass artist from Athens, TN, with a $100 award in honor of American Craft Week. During October 5-14, artists, galleries, craft organizations and schools across the nation are celebrating the third annual American Craft Week to raise awareness of the craft industry.
