New Home Construction in Hendersonville, NC

It’s hard to capture the slope of our lot. It’s up on a ridge. I think the altitude is about 2400 ft. Here’s what it looked like before we broke ground…

Then the guys at Laughter Grading (pronounced law-ter) drove their track hoe and bulldozer up the bank…

At the end of the second day, our driveway seemed fairly steep. Here’s a picture for perspective…

Riding in the Grand Highlands. Literally.

I took a ride up the mountain near our home. It’s called Bearwallow, and it has lots of fun twisties…

When I got to around 4,000 ft. elevation I saw an entrance to a new-home community…

I rode a little closer and I could tell it was a beautiful place…

I didn’t see anyone around, so I rode through the open gate…

…past the beautifully restored red barn and community center

…and around the beautiful rolling hills on top of Bearwallow Mountain…

…and all along the black fence that borders the community…

I couldn’t pass the Grand Highlands clubhouse without stopping to take a picture…

Of course the homes — and their views — aren’t too shabby either…

That night we went into town for ice cream and I saw something I hadn’t noticed before… the sales office for Grand Highlands. If you’re looking for a new home, getting ready to retire, or your ship came in and you need another place to vacation, stop by the Grand Highlands office in Hendersonville…

Lunch on Top of the World at Wolf Laurel Resort

Our neighbors took us to lunch the other day at Wolf Laurel Country Club. We sat on the balcony and although it was a little hazy we enjoyed a beautiful view…

Chef Rudi visited our table… He’s very good at what he does.

After lunch we drove through part of the community. Many of the homes are huge (not exactly log cabins) and with altitudes around 5,000 feet most of them have amazing views.

The Wolf Laurel golf course looks like fun, but it’s not for the faint of heart…

Special thanks to our new friends, Joe and Mary Jane, for a great meal and another fun afternoon in the Blue Ridge Mountains…

Amazed by the Hospitality of Our New Neighbors

The movers hadn’t even unloaded our belongings before our neighbors invited us to dinner — even though the driver of our moving van made a terrible dent in their lawn!

What an awesome couple. In addition to being a builder, Joe is an incredible cook. He prepared a delicious meal for us — lobster and shrimp risotto!

His wife, Mary Jane, is the founder of Adesso Interior Design. I didn’t take any pictures during dinner, but Mary Jane’s decorating is impeccable.

We also met our neighbors on the other side. During our first conversation we mentioned the difficulty we were having in getting high-speed Internet service. (AT&T has capped their DSL service here.) Our new neighbors immediately volunteered to let us connect to their network!

We continue to meet friendly people wherever we go on this side of the state!

We Found a Nice Home in Fletcher, NC

We contacted Carolina Cottages and rented a comfortable townhouse at the Village at Windstone in Fletcher, NC, while we wait for our new home to be constructed in Hendersonville.

With its beautiful mountain views and surrounding pastures, the community looks and feels like it’s way out in the country. But the location is actually very convenient to everything — the Asheville airport, parks, the post office, restaurants, shopping and some beautiful drives. And the community pool is directly across the street…
